How Can I Be Part of Public Safety and Security?

If you want to promote safety and security of the public, you may ask, "How can I be part of the public safety and security?" Well, public safety officers are responsible for implementing city ordinances, state laws and traffic laws. So, you need to make sure that citizens are following the laws. You must also provide support to medical and fire emergency services. You should also possess a wide range of knowledge, skills and abilities in addition to the carious state license you need to earn in order to serve the public. You must be a citizen of the United States, and at least 21 years of age.

If you are still asking, "How can I be a part of public safety and security?" then here are the things you need to do. First, you need to get a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Enroll in the program that focuses on public safety, criminal justice or other related fields. Make sure that you take job-related classes such as emergency response, patrol techniques, and risk management.

Then, you need to take the ACCUPLACER test which is administered by the College Board. It is taken to evaluate your knowledge and skills on basic algebra, sentence skills, and reading comprehension. You must take the exam and forward the result to public safety department in your locale. You should also forward your official application for placement and eligibility.

You should obtain the Law Enforcement certification and attend a police academy as well. These programs will provide you with classroom instruction training and hands-on training to develop and test your skills. To receive the certification, you must pass the exam approved by the state you will be working in.
